Barre Classes at MBDY

Looking for a fitness class that incorporates elements of dance AND makes you feel the burn and muscle activation within seconds? Join us for a Barre class at MBDY!

FAQs:

Q: I am not a dancer. Can I do Barre?

A: Of course! Our barre classes are open to all levels, and there is no dance experience required. The "danciest" thing that you will experience is perhaps the "ballet terminology" like wide second, plié, relevé, etc. Don't worry though, we will explain and model these positions and movements!

Q: I'm not flexible and I'm out of shape. Should I do Barre?

A: YES! We offer a wonderful, casual, welcoming space for everyone! Come to class, do what you can, chat with your instructor beforehand and let them know of any injuries or limitations you're working through. Barre is great because it mainly works with isometric-based movements (think tiny and mighty,) getting the muscles to fatigue, and then getting to lengthen everything out with a stretch. There are sometimes cardio elements to our Barre classes, but nothing too crazy, and we are really good about offering many different options/modifications.

Q: What makes MBDY's Barre classes different?

A: Our Barre classes don't "tuck."  As we age, the body begins to tuck the pelvis under. It is part of aging that we can stave off by strengthening the core in a neutral spine and practicing good posture while working in class. We promote a neutral spine in most exercises, limiting fold-over and imprinting the spine while on the mat.

Q: What if I’m doing a movement incorrectly?

A: Our instructors are trained in teaching proper body form and correcting misalignments - two elements that are crucial to being and feeling successful in a barre class. Additionally, when clients are dealing with injuries, pregnancy, fatigue, etc., your MBDY instructors know just how to create modifications that fit each clients' needs. The truth is, we are all at different places in our fitness journeys, but we can still move together as a community, working towards our individual goals, and "be." Barre people, no matter what level of fitness or Barre experience we have.

Q: What kind of music can I expect?

A: Our playlists are curated to include music other than traditional fitness tracks. Each instructor organizes their playlists to include warm-up, mat, Barre, and cool-down/stretch music without having to search for music during class.

Q: What do I wear on my feet?

A: Anything you want, we don't require grip socks. Most clients choose to go barefoot.

Q: What do I need to bring?

A: Yourself, a water bottle, and perhaps a towel. The studio has all props and supplies that you will need for class.

Q: Can I bring my boyfriend/husband/male friend?

A: Of course! Most of our clients are female, but all are welcome.

More than a Barre class, we prioritize community. We hope to see you in a Barre class soon!
