April Thoughts
Spring has arrived. The days are warmer and longer, allowing us to spend more time outside in the evenings. We are taking time away or preparing for that first big holiday since the pandemic began. With this spring awakening, some of us celebrate a return to normal activities. We have let some fear and anxiety fall away as we resume our lives as they once were, allowing us to feel joyful and renewed.
In contrast to that, we have a war and humanitarian crisis in Europe that has left many of us feeling powerless to help and heartbroken for the citizens of Ukraine. Add to that continued economic and social pressures at home that are creating stress and fatigue.
I feel the ever-present roller coaster of emotions become even more drastic with these opposed feelings of joy and renewal and heartbreak and pressure. And it’s exhausting.
How do we balance the paradox of allowing ourselves to feel joy even in a time of great distress?
To feel only one of these emotions is to deny the existence of the other. When you choose and are determined to stay in a set emotional place, you deprive yourself of the opportunity to live in the present moment. It takes courage and an open, spacious heart to accept and be present with opposing thoughts and emotions. At times it can make us feel inauthentic and undecided. But it is the exact opposite. Allowing yourself to discern what is in the moment will enable you to live your life and be present and available to hold space for others.
Like the spring weather, our current situation and emotions often change without warning. Yet, nature reawakens, blooms, and shows us her beauty even in the harshest of times. This highlights that all things exist in contrast and harmony. Be present and allow yourself to feel what comes with each passing moment authentically.
With gratitude, love and support,
Elease
