March Thoughts
Well, It’s been a year and we are still standing because of your support and belief in what we do. Anniversaries are something that we typically celebrate although there are anniversaries that serve to do nothing more than remind us of an event, good, bad, or otherwise. This anniversary lies somewhere in between.
Last year about this time we felt the weight of how we should respond to a growing world crisis. We felt an obligation to do our part to keep you, and our community, and beyond safe and healthy. And so we closed our in-person doors and opened what we like to call our little window to the world via Live Streaming and On Demand. It was not easy but we stayed within every guideline. Followed every protocol and ensured that we would be able to reopen safely when allowed.
As we closed those in-person doors we shared tears of disbelief, confusion, frustration, and grief. So much grief. Personally, I grieved for lives lost, opportunism lost, and the fear that we may lose our most safe and supportive space. The roller coaster of emotions kept us in a place of uncertainty and stress about our own situations and that of those that we love. We all had varying degrees of needs, risk, and responsibilities as we learned to navigate and juggle our new schedules, or lack thereof.
As with all aspects of life, what we choose to see and sit with, becomes our perception, and ultimately our method of handling any situation. At the risk of sounding like a “Pollyanna” more positive than negative came out of this experience. I am so proud of our community and how we came together to support each other and those in need. So many of you reached out in hopes of helping other members stay connected. You rallied and brought to our attention marginalized groups that needed support throughout the summer. You made an effort to ask about one another when absent from our outdoor or online classes. YOU kept Be. alive.
We look forward to the day when we will walk back into our beautiful studio, hold onto those solid wood barres and move and dance once again indoors. But don't worry the outdoor pavilion isn’t going anywhere. We have become too accustomed to being outside with the breeze blowing and the birds chirping. The option to have both is an opportunity that we would embrace and expand upon.
This year also gave us the opportunity to take a complete inventory of what is most important at Be. and simplify our message. And so in the next few days we will be announcing a few changes. We hope that you will continue to support us as we grow and evolve. We are optimistic and motivated to expand our community, and share our unique way of Moving, Dancing, and Connecting.
Wherever you are during this time of remembering, one year gone, focus on what you have learned, how you have grown, and how it will serve you and those who share your life. We were meant to come out on the other side with a new awareness, grace and patience, and most of all acceptance and understanding for one another.
With love and Gratitude,
Elease + The Be. Team
